    • Here are the dates planned for our upcoming 2027 Ice Drift & Race Schedule. We are pleased to once again announce Minus Forty Racing as our 2027 Ice Race Series Sponsor - much appreciated Damon! Same as last year we will be hosting a rookie school/orientation session on Saturday morning at the first 4 events for any newcomers and those seeking a competition license. Saturday will focus on Ice Drifting and practice with Sunday being the feature race day for Drifting, Racing and spectators. The final Gimli weekend will be a double header race and drift event with no school offered.  Please remember these dates are "planned" and in the event we are unable to hold an event (not enough ice, too cold, not enough snow, too much snow, etc...) we will typically postpone/reschedule the event to the following weekend. If it gets postponed again we will then try to reschedule it in between the Winnipeg Beach & Gimli events. Please check this forum and/or our social media for any schedule updates. Jan 2/3 - Lake Shirley (Winnipeg Waterski Pond) Jan 16/17 - Lake Shirley (Winnipeg Waterski Pond) Feb 30/31 - Lake Shirley (Winnipeg Waterski Pond) Feb 14/15 - Winnipeg Beach (as part of the Wonderful Winter Weekend Festival) March 6/7 - Gimli (as part of the Gimli Ice Festival) See you all out on the ice!

    • There are many incidents where I watched mechanics or drivers retighten their wheels after each special stage / heat, and they were always complaining how their wheels come loose during hard driving. Those were typically also the people who later complained about wheel studs breaking. Reality is, as materials get hot, they expand. Typically, the wheel studs/bolts get much hotter than the wheel, as they protrude into the hub and rotor, while the wheel itself is actually acting as a heat sink, giving the heat energy to the surrounding air. That means the stud/ bolt will expand in length more than the wheel expands in thickness, making the wheel nut / bolt feel under tightened every time you check them hot. Keep snugging them up, and eventually you will reach their tensile strength limit after all parts have cooled down again. Checking the wheel torque twice a day is enough, imho; once first thing in the morning, and the second time after the lunch break, but most importantly: when everything has cooled down again!
    • Yeah, I don't think accurate torque specs for ANYTHING call for the surfaces to be hot... That's nonsensical. Not to mention removal afterwards might be even tougher when the studs/bolts have contracted after cooling down.
    • I have a pair of Piloti and Puma driving shoes. Both are great for pedal feel, but they are very slim which can make heel/toe more difficult, but almost never experience an instance of accidentally hitting both pedals.    The Puma were significantly cheaper and seem to have better grip on the soles, so I tend to use them on track more, while using the Piloti for street driving.
    • I've always torqued my wheels before the first session of the day, and then checked wheel torque the morning following the last session, so only when not hot.  No empirical evidence for this, but metal is more malleable when hot, so I suspect that performing additional torquing when hot could result in unintended metal fatigue.
    • It’s not uncommon to see drivers torquing their wheel nuts immediately after a session. I’m hoping someone out there has a definitive answer on torquing wheels when hot. I asked AI (Artificial Incorrectness) and they said DO NOT torque wheel nuts when hot. That’s always been my assumption but AI’s response to the resultant effect was “could result in over-torque or under-torque”. Maybe it depends on the specific wheel components and mounting configuration? Regardless, it would seem best to NOT torque the wheels when hot. Has anyone done testing to prove one way or the other?

    • Hi Folks,  here's a little rear view action from the fall track days event (Sunday).  This is my '06 Solstice Mallet.  Doesn't sound quite right because of the crappy bluetooth microphone.  I think it might be Glen's '26 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S (?) that's behind me.  Anyways, a fun day and a great season wrap up.
