Ron Janzen
While attending cruise night a few times this summer, I noticed that the event ( Sunday Night - Westwood - Princess Auto Parking Lot) is really growing and getting more organized (food vendor, music, etc). I had the thought that WSCC should explore the idea of setting up a booth and promoting HPDE and the various racing disciplines. It seems like the type of crowd that is an excellent source of new club members and participants. There are literally hundreds in attendance every Sunday night. It would also send a community message of taking it off the streets and onto the track, in a safe, supported and trained way. Perhaps this has been tried in the past and it wasn't worthwhile? Any thoughts or comments about this? There's probably plenty of WSCC members attending cruise night and available to volunteer for the booth...
Rare Snake
There are a few members who are there religiously every Sunday, and we have wondered and talked amongst ourselves about this before. The only reason I haven't jumped on it and made it a bigger thing is because of the uncertainty around the future between the RM and the track at GMP. That is my honest answer. Ron Janzen
Thanks RS, I figured there was some history. My perspective is grow, grow always. If you're not moving forward, you're moving backward. I would treat the track disussions as seperate from membership growth. Also, it's likely that the stronger the membership, the more influence there will be on the RM and negotiations. That may be overly simplistic, but it's my view from the sidelines.
funkejay
If there is someone willing to volunteer and carry our colours, then it should be do-able. Of course, the devil is in the details. Do we have permissions to set up a 'booth' in the parking lot during cruise nights? Do we have members who are prepared to commit to regularly manning the 'booth'? What is our message going to be, and which Disciplines are most interested in this form of outreach? Where is our promotional budget going to come from? Sounds like something interested Club members should be discussing as part of a committee. Anyone interested in spearheading this please reach out directly to me or to Dason as our Volunteer Coordinator.
Ron Janzen
For some branding on the display booth, Safety Services Manitoba might provide some funding for the initiative. We could perhaps even persuade MPI to participate as well...its in their interests of road safety to promote WSSC and their programs. I'd be happy to volunteer time for that aspect of the initiative and occassionally being in the booth to do Q & A with the public. But I don't want to chair this or be on a regular committee...over committed already.
Jim Eh.
Pretty sure any association with MPIC would not happen. It has been attempted before BTW. They would only want to have ANY association if the other party be a "certified" and recognized body such as a national driver training center but even then they steer clear as to not show any favoritism to one over another. Liability and public perception is a real thing with them understandably so.

Our leadership and volunteers already give so much time and energy to the Club, I'm not prepared to ask them to do more. If there is a commitment from Club members to staff and support an initiative like this, we'd certainly be prepared to consider it. But it's not something I would ask someone to take on, not on top of all the other responsibilities and duties our Directors, committee chairs and volunteers already have. Ron Janzen
Thanks, I can certainly appreciate that. I'm so grateful for all the time and service committed by the volunteers. WSSC and Gimli Motorsport Track is a rare jewel. As my current community volunteer involvements wind down, I hope to ramp up my WSSC involvments. In the meantime, I'm willing to engage MPI in some exploratory discussion. I've got good repore and partnership with them through Safety Services Manitoba. By the way I met Gimli Mayor, Kevin Chudd, at a recent launch event for Operation Red Nose. I put in a plug for how much I appreciate the track and how it promotes and supports safety in motorsport for the province. It was a good discussion. Cheers. Mopar11
Honestly…World Of Wheels worked very well last year. And I had a great time volunteering for it. I’m hoping we’ll do WOW again in 2024.
