2022 Ice Race season

The Old Farmers Almanac is calling for cold weather this winter and the pandemic seems to be slowly going in the right direction so we are optimistic that our ice racing this winter will happen!

The plans for this winter are similar to our proposed plans of last year and we are excited to field a large group of studded cars for the Fire on Ice Series for door to door racing action. We are especially excited to start trying out our newly developed spec studded tires. For those racers that still have black rocket tires they are welcome to continue using them in the same race class.

The IceX racers will be hitting the ice in between the studded races along with having some full days of track time devoted just to this group. This is an opportunity for those people who want the fun of drifting on ice on a purpose built racetrack without the potential damage that comes with door to door racing. This is a developing class primarily for uncaged streetcars and we are looking at ways of growing this field and possibly incorporating some form of timed competition for this group of racers similar to DirtX. More info regarding this will likely come out as we get closer to the race dates. Find yourself a winter beater and come join the fun!

The current planned racing schedule is posted on the Ice Racing Announcements forum

The provincial health guidelines/restrictions currently allows for our club to host competitive racing events without significant restrictions (similar to our summer racing events) however please remember that these guidelines are often changing and evolving. As we get closer to the events we will post any new changes or restrictions regarding the clubs protocols required to adhere with the most current guidelines.

Hope to see everyone out on the ice!

The 2022 Ice Racing Season is still on! (despite the unfortunate cancelation of the first weekend)

As per the latest provincial public heath orders effective Jan 4th we have determined that we can still safely hold our ice racing events this winter while remaining compliant with the guidelines. Some key aspects to our ice racing event covid protocols this winter include:

  • possession of a vaccine certificate is not required for attendance

  • no food vendors will be on-site. Attendees will need to bring their own lunch/drinks and event volunteers will be provided complimentary lunch at a local restaurant (vax certificate required for this).

  • All participants will be expected to social distance whenever possible throughout the event (drivers meeting will be held outdoor in the parking lot, masks required when utilizing public washroom facilities, etc).

  • Attendance must not exceed 50% of the capacity of the facility (not an issue with our venues)

The first event is now scheduled for Jan 22/23 at the fabulous Winnipeg Ski Pond on Murdoch Road in Winnipeg.

  • Saturday Jan 22 will be a day of practice and test/tune for newcomers and racers. All cars welcome! Lots of ice drifting lapping available.
  • Sunday Jan 23 – door to door studded tire racing! As well, the IceX cars will be on track in between the studded races competing for the best lap times. Come out with your winter streetcar and try your hand at ice drifting and laying down the best lap time!

For additional information on how to get involved in ice racing please see the pinned post on this forum called “WSCC Ice Racing – got questions?” or feel free to drop me a email at ice@wscc.mb.ca

Registration on MSR (MotorsportReg) will be open soon. Please check back shortly for that announcement and register as soon as possible.

Special thanks to the fabulous group of volunteers who have already expressed commitment to show up to help put on these great events. Without them nobody would be racing...please remember that!

See you all on the ice!
