Car Classing Guide + Help Thread

Recommended Posts

Ok so on wed I will be meeting up with the future owner of my mach 1 to do the bill of sale for the car and hand over the keys. This leaves me having to decide what my future autocross/hpde car will be. My thoughts are torn between: Just use my stock impreza wagon in stock class with nice tires, buy a cheap Miata, buy an 2004-2005 wrx wagon (I like the wagon for practicality of hauling stuff over the sedan), or my latest thought buy a write off wrx or sti sedan of the same year as my car and do a complete swap over of all the wrx/sti bits (including the sedan rear 1/4 panels) onto my base model wagon effectively making my car a wrx sti spec. This should technically make my car an wrx/sti with the price of a base model registration/ insurance. If I completely swap everything over and change the car to a wrx spec would the car now be classified as a wrx in street class? My car is very clean in terms of rust so it could be a good starting point. Not sure what I will do yet just want to know the details before I would take on a big project like that.

So my question is does a car completely converted to a wrx right down the badges become a wrx for classing purposes?

Also can someone tell me what stock size wheel specs and tire size is for a 2004 wrx or sti sedan? I am thinking Enkie rpf 1

The short answer is no you cannot re-shell/update your base model Impreza wagon with STI parts to run it in street class. This would be however be legal for Street modified, or maybe Street Prepared depending how you do it.  Remember if a modification is not listed in the rulebook it's not allowed.

depends on the price? Can you pm me some details. I am not looking to buy something too expensive as I have a restoration project on the go. Is yours the black one from Shanzenfeld that was on Kijij this winter?

Yeah. I'd probably let it go for $7000 if I do end up selling it.

Good day to all! Just a curious question about season trophy, how many games required to win to get it? And can i still run in the novice class even though i already joined 5 race last year? Please and thanks!

Trophies are based on the rule of 1/2 plus 1. This year we have 18 races, so that gives 10 races (18/2 + 1 = 10) that count for point towards the championship. First place gets 1000 points and everyone else gets points based on how close their PAX time is compared to the PAX time of 1st place. So you really don't need to win the most races to take 1st place in the championship. Additionally we take the best 10 races (for 2017 at least) so the more you race the more "drops" you get.

Regarding the Novice group, we have not completed our 2017 Supplemental Regulations where this will be defined but I don't see this changing much. From the 2016 Supp Regs:

Novice: A 'Novice' is defined as a competitor who competed in nine (9) or fewer autocross events prior to the start of the current season. Schools do not count as events. Novices must class themselves appropriately and identify themselves as Novices upon registration in order to compete in the Novice Championship, which is subject to the same scoring rules as the other class groups.

You've raced 5 autoslaloms with us but if you have races in autoslalom anywhere else in any previous year they still count to that total. The idea is to properly classify those that have limited autoslalom experience. So the question goes back to you...do you qualify as a novice?

Hey everyone!

Need some help with classification,

In 2011, I was in ESP with my WRX. The car is essentially the same, just wider 17x9 wheels, tires, and a cosmetic non-functional diffuser (can remove if it will change class). I am assuming in 2017 I will be in ASP judging by the rule book for this year?

Assuming the items you have changed on your car are all still SP legal then yeah it looks like you get to come play in ASP. I think last year both our cars got bumped up to ASP...I am in a 2012 S4. Our group is starting to fill out a bit this year so it should be some good battles ahead.

Hello!

1991 Mazda Miata. Stock except for 15" wheels over factory 14" and Flying Miata Vmaxx coilovers. No factory LSD.

Would this be STS classification?

Thanks!

Yes I think you are correct. In ST_ (any Street Touring class) you are allowed to change wheels and suspension.

Specific to the Miata, because it's a '91 w/o LSD, that means you go into STS instead of STR.

Hello!

I'm having a little troubling figuring out where my 2005 Nissan 350Z needs to be:

  • 9.5"x18 wheels (1.5" wider than OE in front, 1" wider in rear) on 265 rubber
  • Intake
  • This doesn't seem to be relevant, but I've also upgraded the clutch/flywheel

It looks like I should be in STU, because of the wheels. Does that make sense?

Gents,

I am a bit confused with Classing Guide ((

Could somebody help me PLEASE to define in which class should I register my car?

My first 8 events in this season I`ll go in Novice class, nevertheless I would like to know what should I put in PAX field during my registration.

My car:

2006 Acura RSX Type S

https://dk1xgl0d43mu1.cloudfront.net/user_files/scca/downloads/000/020/866/2017-04-04-appendix-A-automobile-classes.pdf

That document shows me H Street Class (HS)

But I do have some modifications on my car and I need to know how that impacts on my class as well.

SO, here is the list of not stock parts\components:

1. Tires 225/45 R17 (stock 215/45 R17)

2. Cold Air Intake

3. Rear sway bar

4. Coilovers

Thanks  in advance.

Max.

After reading the rules, i came up with STU for my class. Can anyone confirm this please.

1984-2000 Honda Civic is listed in STS. If all your mods are ST* legal that's your class.
