Classing Help

lets use this thread to help class cars.

something i came across trying to get a car to class lower when using dyno and weight is MEG. (minimum expected gain) the pax calculator is going to want to automatically use this when it feels your dyno number is low for the pips. the meg is flawed as it wont let you lower your class regardless of hp entered. if you look at the chart in review and submit you may find the actual race weight and dyno class for the car to be lower.

if anyone feels there car cant be competitive lets try figure it out. i don't think this classing is great but i am here to give it a fair shot of working

Did I hear somebody say in the meeting yesterday that there's a list somewhere of the max PI for each class?

EXTREME

This class is intended for those that want to build a “track beast” and challenge the fastest lap record put down at GMP (presently 58.962).

All safety requirements per governing body regulations must be met, otherwise there are no restrictions to modifications.

MODIFIED (MOD)

This class combines the existing OTA sub-classes of Open Mod, Mod 1, Mod 2, and Mod 3 into a single class.

The Performance Index Points (PIP) ranges from 95.0 to 129.9points.

SUPER GRAND TOURING (SGT)

This class combines the existing OTA sub-classes of SGT1, SGT2, and SGT3 into a single class.

The Performance Index Points (PIP) ranges from 80.0 to 94.9 points.

GRAND TOURING (GT)

This class combines the existing OTA sub-classes of GT1, GT2, GT3, and GT4 into a single class.

The Performance Index Points (PIP) ranges from 60.0 to 79.9points.

TOURING

This class combines the existing OTA sub-classes of T1, T2, and T3 into a single class.

The Performance Index Points (PIP) ranges from 40.0 to 59.9points.

I’m trying to boost my car but I’m having a hard time fitting it into SGT, I think I have it sorted out but could use a double check before I spend $10k on it.

Also is a Sequential transmission only worth 1.5 PIP’s?

I think its so low on pips because of all the other pips you take along the way to get it working. all the tuning pips, hit for gear ratio's ect. Its defiantly crossed my mind before  haha. I'm already taking all of the pips but the sequential

I've merged the following content from @donrolandofurioso from a similar topic:

This note is not just for the newcomers to Time Attack; it is equally important to experienced T/A participants, as the PIP scheduling has changed for this year (2022).

It has been mentioned already to everybody before, and I stressed it during the Licensing School: It is your responsibility to ensure that your car is running in the appropriate class!

Taking a cursory look over the enrollments for the next race weekend, I noticed cars that seem to be placed into the appropriate class as per CCDB base list (which assumes that the car is stock just as it came from factory), but are modified well beyond stock condition. Those cars need to be classified properly!

Others are listed in a seemingly randomly selected class, because they don't show up in the base list. While it is your responsibility to contact OTA to get your car into the base list, we don't want to stop you from participating. However, you should contact me @donrolandofurioso to ensure that we get you into a class that can reasonably be assumed as the proper one.

Also contact us if you do not know how to properly go through the classification process.

Please do not wait until race day! We probably won't have time to help you then. And trying to correct your classification after you got caught doesn't protect you from the consequences!

Just finished my first lapping event in a couple years so seems like a good time to class my car. 2005 Subaru Legacy GT sedan.

T1 Base Class

1 pip - Catless uppipe (Wasn't sure as this is mentioned in .2 and .3). Car originally has a cat in the uppipe. I replaced with a catless one.

1 pip - High flow catted downpipe

1 pip - IAG competition Air Oil Separator (Not sure about this one, but it replaces the PCV)

3 pips - Aftermarket tune using accessport

6 pips - Coilovers

1.5 pips - Non OEM wheel alignment

1 pip - Bump steer correction kit (tie rods + ball joints)

Total of 14.5 pips

@BradlyW   Thanks for replying to this topic for classing help.  Your PIP schedule looks about right. I checked the IAG website and noted this statement:

"The Street Series AOS maintains the OEM PCV system functionality but supplements its capacity".  Therefore, no performance gain, no violation of emissions regulations and likely no need to claim this as a PIP.

Your modification to remove the cat from the up-pipe on a turbocharged engine per  5.0 B.2 indicates 2.0 PIP's.

Finally, I took a guess at your weight and ran a PIP schedule (see attached).

I've asked our resident experts (Roland and Tyler) to review your claimed PIP's and they may have a few more questions before you can submit an "official" PIP schedule.

I just ran the PIP schedule for you.

I agree with Brian, your PCV system won't get you any additional PIP. The Competition version of your IAG AOS does change air flow and intake air quality of your engine; however, you already claim a PCM tune which accounts for that. Therefore, in my mind you already did take the penalty that comes with installation of the Competition (as opposed to the Street) version of that component.

I also come up with GT2 as your correct class based on what modifications you mentioned. I ran the schedule with your own weight as 150lbs, 200lbs and 250lbs - the result is always GT2.

Your final PI is 73.2 PIP. This means you have only 1.7 PIP left before you slide into the next class - always something to be mindful of when doing further modifications to the car. Time Attack is as much about being a good driver as being a good strategist, with the constant need to evaluate the benefits of a modification with the attached penalty in classification.
