This post has been updated with the following announcement:

Due to circumstances beyond our control we have unfortunately had to make the decision to cancel this weekend's planned ice racing at Beausejour CPTC. A combination of factors driven mostly by the current state of the omicron variant and the effect this has had on our car count and the number of volunteers that we require to hold our event has resulted in us having to unfortunately defer the start of our season until Jan 22/23.

We are optimistic that the state of the pandemic and the number of provincial positive case counts currently being impacted by the spread of the Omicron variant will improve later this month and we will be able to hit the ice with a full field of race cars on Jan 22 & 23 with all the great volunteers that we require to host an ice racing event.

I stand committed that sliding around on a icy race track in a helmet is still the safest way to get through this pandemic! Please bear with our ice race organizing team as we work through the details on how to best return to the ice and get back to racing.

Stay positive and stay healthy! Hopefully we see everyone out at the Winnipeg Ski Pond on Jan 22 & 23!

  • 2 weeks later...

Despite the decision to cancel the Ice Racing HPDE school, we do plan on providing some informal coaching/training sessions for any newcomers that want to come out and have some fun practicing their ice drifting skills. We plan on setting up some cones on the flooded parking lot area at the Beausejour track and will be utilizing that area along with the oval track to provide lots of practice opportunities for both the caged race cars and the streetcars for both veterans and newcomers.

Come on out and learn how to execute an understeer trail braking drift on ice followed by a classic Scandinavian flick : )
