white_cross
Last year I seem to remember that it was offered that you could take your street car on the course after racing was done if you had winter tires. I had all seasons and was not able to. My car needs tires this winter and am planning on a winter set for this year. Is there a possibility that I can try out the course in my street car after an event? I love fun winter driving.
chkdsk
Thanks for the post, racers from other venues are always welcome here or at our events. We don't do hot laps after a racing event as it's a long day Sunday although there is lapping/school events on Saturday that you can bring your street car out and have a good time. There aren't many rules although a few to keep in mind; - You need to be a card carrying member of WSCC and current so renew early - You need a valid drivers license - You and anyone with you will need to sign a waiver at the venue when you arrive - You will need a helmet - You will need to cough up some dough for lapping and I believe it's $60 for the entire day for the sessions last year - I believe you may be allowed a passenger if they are wearing a helmet and properly restrained although Al Marcoux should chime in on this. - We don't have a lunch truck at the track for ice racing so bring some water and snacks. - You should be very acquainted with flags and procedures before entering the track and Al Marcoux can hook you up. We generally post the schedule ahead of time on the forums so keep checking in. In my personal opinion, I think everyone should take their daily "winter" car on ice and learn how much control you really have and I'm glad you showed some interest and please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks.
Corey
Do it! It's so much fun. Just keep your wallet between your foot and the throttle. Fat wallet to fix damage = faster. Skinny wallet = slower and more conservative.
Jim Eh.
Seems to me I remember someone with a rented class A motorhome once ..... Remember only 103 (possibly) sleeps 'til ice racing starts!

Thanks. Sweet I really want to try it. Is there risk of car contact though I do have hail damage and door dents but bigger damage may keep me from driving it to work the next day or reselling it. The school could be fun though. That will be on the schedule of events too? I have everything on the list except knowledge of the flags. I agree with taking your daily winter car on ice theory. I spent some time teaching my wife winter car control in an abandoned icy parking lot doing donuts locking up the brakes, controlling skids etc. Kind of fun watching her nail it too. I just wanted her to be safe as possible in bad conditions and aware of how to handle a hectic situation.
white_cross
If I end up really liking the ice racing does a GEO Metro make a good ice race car. I have a friend with one that has a rebuild motor but is retired from road use.
