ROUND #1 – RALLY PERCE-NEIGE MANIWAKI, QUEBEC (February 6-7)***************************************************Shortly after solidifying the 2008 Canadian Championship at the http://www.pacificforestrally.com in October, Zedril Rallysport went straight to work on installing a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer 4B11 motor in preparation for the jump to the modified Group2 2wd category for the 2009 season. Although the 2003 engine was a rock-solid, proven and ultra-reliable powerplant, the new engine/transmission combination has great long-term potential, with an additional 45whp right off the bat, improved gear ratios, and comes-in 29lbs lighter than its predecessor. In addition to the engine swap, the team managed to reduce the weight of the entire vehicle by no less than 270lbs! “We simply did not want to do away with all of the developmental aspects we've addressed and perfected while running the car these last two seasons. It's a great car as is...we just perfected it further with the new powerplant and permitted weight reduction.”With the engine swap and weight reduction in the books, the season opener in the frozen forests surrounding Maniwaki, QC proved to be an extremely successful debut for the 2003/2008 Mitsubishi Lancer ES 4B11, with margin of victory of nearly 18 minutes ahead of their closest rival. “The new engine is simply inspiring and the car was flawless throughout the entire event”, besting (17) Open Class All-Wheel-Drive monsters in the process. Although the ice and snow covered roads of the opening round were extremely demanding, the all-gravel high-altitude Rocky Mountain Rally on May 29-30 will be the ultimate test for the new hybrid.CARS Post-Event Press Release:http://www.auto123.com/en/news/car-news/canadian-rally-antoine-lestage-wins-seasons-opener?artid=104920Mitsubishi Post-Event Press Release:http://www.mitsubishi-motors-pr.ca/enhanced/en-ca/Media/Preview.aspx?mediaid=12894ABOUT RALLYING AND THE CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF RALLYSPORT:****************************************************Performance Rallying is considered by many as the most extreme form of automobile motorsport and it’s often described simply as “real cars, real roads, real fast.” This all-season motorsport sees drivers and their co-drivers taking modified street-legal cars to the absolute limit as they achieve blistering speeds over challenging closed-road courses that typically cover more than 170 kilometers of gravel, dirt or snow-covered roads. Fans can get up close to the cars in the service areas and catch all of the action from specially designated spectator points located at the best spots on the route with competitors often reaching speeds of well over 160 kph.The Canadian Association of Rallysport (CARS) is the official sanctioning body for rallying in Canada and the premier rally series, the Canadian Rally Championship (CRC), comprising of six events across the country, spanning from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in New Richmond, Quebec to the mountains of Merritt, BC.A TRIBUTE TO RALLY'S PAST:**********************
