Miss_Behavin
What class for a bone stock '02 325i?Unless you are a member of the WSCC you race in what is called "open class". This class is "straight up" times between cars and is often the largest class (mostly newbies). The reason is that only members can compete for trophies (thus classing). Shawn
Thinking ahead to next year, am I correct that my 2010 VW Jetta with the 2.0L Turbo engine would be STX or CSP depending on the modifications? The rear anti-sway bar I am thinking of installing forces me out of stock. And the lateral subframe braces put me into Street Prepared I think. Shawn
What are the steps to figuring out my specific class once I determine the general class I am in? I thought that I had it figured out back in the day with my S4 but with my Jetta I'm now questioning the progression from GS to CSP.If I know I am going to be in Street Prepared, I was going to the class list starting at 'A' and working my way through the list until I found my car. Since I did not find my car I started back up at the top of the list and found where my car landed in terms of the catch-alls. That is how I hit CSP.I was thinking that maybe once I hit the bottom of the list the first time I should actually be going back up in reverse order looking at the catch-alls which would put me in DSP.Shawn

Shawn
Yes the braces are the big question. I don't know enough about cars to fully understand by reading the product write-up and I don't have any installation instructions to refer to. They are called "stress bars" and they are described as "they eliminate the subframe flex that is added on from hard cornering to stiffer sway bars". I don't know if this makes them subfram connectors or not. And just now while I was looking at it I realized that I was mixing up 2 different products, the other product was called a "subframe rebar". That said, how can I find out for sure what classes the stress bars are legal for? Just in case someone here can help me out, this is a link to the product infohttp://www.namotorsports.net/detail.cfm/part_cd/KM04013 Shawn

Need my Focusin
I rember a catch-all for JDM cars, but for the life of my can't remeber what it was.
Beau
Hmm ... can't find the Skyline in the SCCA manual. Maybe there is a clause for all foreign market cars that were never sold in NA, like what Need my Focusin said.I can't find one though, so this is my best guess. With the mods you listed, the aftermarket ECU likely alters boost, which would put you in at least Street Prepared Category (one of: ASP, BSP, CSP, DSP, ESP, or FSP). Looking into that Category, I couldn't find anything for your specific car, so I looked through all the catch-all listings. My best estimate for your car would be "Sports cars over 2.0L not otherwise classified." That is found in ASP. So my best guess is ASP for your car. Curtis
I believe the catch all was DMOD.

Art
From Prepared:2. Cars running in Prepared Category must have been series produced with normal road touring equipment, capable of being licensedfor normal road use in the United States, and normally sold and delivered through the manufacturer’s retail sales outlets in the United States. All the other preceding classes (Stock, ST, SP, SM) have a similar restriction.Stock also explains how Canadian cars become eligible. You're out of luck with a JDM car. I believe Curtis is correct in suggesting a "Mod" class.I rember a catch-all for JDM cars' date=' but for the life of my can't remeber what it was.[/quote']There was under the ASN Canada classing rules ... *SP IIRC. SCCA doesn't have anything.

Magner
Reviewing the rules for the upcoming auto-x season. My 1995 Neon is currently classed in STC.I would like help clarifying two rules (based on the 2012 SCCA rule book)Section 14.10 G Any mechanical shift linkage may be used.I assume this includes the addition of a short shifter mechanism? Section 14.2 D: Alternate steering wheels are allowed except that steering wheels with an integral airbag may not be changed. My 1995 Neon came with an airbag equipped wheel. Can I replace it with a newer 2003+ Neon wheel (also airbag equipped),or am I stuck with the original 1995 wheel?

According to the wording, I believe you are out of luck. I haven't found a specific ruling from the SCCA in an air bag to air bag swap. Locally I don't know if anyone would have an issue, but if you plan on hitting some of the big SCCA events you might (particularly if you do well )
Magner
Thanks for the feedback. I'm also interpreting the airbag rule as it can't be changed. If it was allowed I'd expect a clause stating airbag wheels can only be replaced with other functioning airbag wheels. Both wheels are same diameter too, it's a shame. I'm not going to risk it for Spring Nationals, even if I do come in dead last. I'd like to use it locally if possible.

They are designed specifically for the car they are installed in, so they may not function properly in another car. It's the same model, but if the geometry of the interior changed between those years, you may want to re-consider.

We run the following trophy classes: [i']SCCA competitionthese are the regular R compound classes, and the ST* classes that the SCCA has. Car times are modified by PAX and you compete against all cars in this group.Stock Street TireThese are the SCCA stock classes, running on street tires (minimum treadwear rating of 140). Car times are also modified by PAX for this group.Modified Street TireThese are the remaining SCCA classes (SP, SM, P, an M) but running on street tires (minimum treadwear 140). Again, times modified by PAX.There is also a RAW class for those not interested in competing for trophies (and those without an annual membership) and a rookie award for those who have fewer than three events at the start of the season.Sounds like you would fit into our FS-S (F stock -street) in the Stock Street Tire group. Corey
We're way ahead of the curve! Instead of RTR, RTF, and RTA, we lump them all together in one giant PAX class. Competition has been pretty good with no clear overdog between the different drivetrain arrangements.
