jody-z
Hello,If you are free this weekend, are interested in rally, and game for a short 3.5 hour drive from Winnipeg, the 4th round of the Central Regional Championship takes place in Mahnomen this coming Friday(6pm to midnight) & Saturday(6pm to 2am)...yup, most of the racing is in the dark, with a breakfast banquet Sunday morning. The race headquarters is the Shooting Star Casino with (20) rallycars entered...event/venue information is available at:http://rally-america.com/regevent.ShootStar.2007.phphttp://rally-america.com/regevent.ShootStar.2007.php?section=entry_listhttp://www.shootingstarrally.comhttp://www.starcasino.comThe organizers have secured an excellent rate for accommodations, including complimentary food certificates and other freebies that make it even less expensive. Hotel reservations can be made by calling (800)453-7827 and using the room block code "CLUB RALLY".Being a regional event, Travis Pastrana, etc. will not be at this event, but, if you've never been to a rally before, this is a great primer for anyone thinking of attending the Bemidji, MN National event in August. In all honesty, the best way to see the cars up close at speed is by working the event as a course marshal. Prior to competing ourselves, we were spectators at the very first rally we ever attended, but have worked every rally since then.If you have any questions, feel free to email me at zedrilracing@shaw.caRegards,Jody
samsquanch
Anyone heading out for this? I was supposed to camping this weekend near Hecla, but am not sure if the weather will let us. I was thinking of checking this out if we don't go camping...Rob
jody-z
Hey Rob,We're leaving for Mahnomen at 6pm today and will see 'ya there if you can swing the trip. Just a few tips...if you have access to a scanner, definitely bring it with you, as all rallies are run via ham radio communications. You'll get to hear everything going on while you're waiting in the forest for the cars to speed by...crashes, mechanical failures, roudy spectactors, etc. Although, I expect there will be little of that being a relatively relaxed regional event and all...come to a national though and its never ending If you don't have a scanner, bring a book/magazine/gameboy to pass the lulls between runs. Oh, and it's a good idea to print off a copy of start order and entry list so you know who's who, as the organizers don't typically provide that on-site. The weather is looking great (23/28), but, with the rain over the last number of days, boots would be a good idea, along with a powerful flashlight. If you can stick around for the de-bannering that takes place after the breakfast banquet, you'll get to drive nearly every stage and see exactly what its like...for the record, the majority of national drivers consider the Minnesota rally roads to be among the very best in the country.Jody
samsquanch
We are still trying to decide what to do for the weekend. We wouldn't be leaving until Friday afternoon, probably around 4:30 PM or so. But thanks for the info...Rob
