Shawn
@wolfgirl What sort of equipment does C.A.P.S use for alignments? And a general question for anyone really, any issue with getting an alignment done on winter wheels/tires compared to using my summer set? Winters are 18x8.5 ET35 with a 225/40R18 and summers are 19x9.5 ET39 with 265/35R19. Shawn
MRS Joe
An alignment is an alignment. It sets the hub face in respect to the chassis and suspension. So unless you lower or raise the car, the geometry stays the same. If there is potential your new wheels will rub suspension components then I'd wait, otherwise I'd personally let them mark up the winter wheels with the alignment gear as I'm sure the alignment gear they use grabs onto the rim lip.
Shawn
Thanks Joe. That's what I thought but just wanted to make sure.
Nhil
Got an alignment done by CAPS today. Overall very satisfied, shop uses laser equipment and can provide printouts. I was able to sit in the car to have it accurate when loaded. Had no trouble hitting the specs I wanted. They also helped me out with a cross threaded bolt I fudged up. Would definitely go back! Only potential negative is they do use the units that clip onto the wheels so if that bugs you, you might have to stomach the Vickar pricing at 2-3x the cost.

Josh, about how long were you at the shop? Just trying to figure out if I have to take a half day of vacation to get this done.

My appt was at 3 and I was out by 430 including the time spend on the bolt so I'd estimate an hour or two depending on the complexity of your car. Beau
Good to hear! I have more than one car that needs an alignment, I'll give these guys a try.
CRX Don
Had an alignment done today. CAPS had no problem working around my low ground clearance car, and aligning to custom specs. Friendly competent service at a good price. Thanks Frank! Why go anywhere else?
CRX Don
FYI - CAPS uses degrees to measure toe, so if you are old school and still think of toe in inches do the conversion to degrees ahead of time. FWIW on a 22" tire 1/16" of toe equals 0.16 degrees or 0 degrees and 9 minutes. Hope that helps.

Mat
I can’t speak for their alignments. I can say that I’ve witnessed and been a part of two family/club members dealings with CAPS turn into absolute nightmares last summer and this winter. Buyer beware. CRX Don
Any good alternatives to CAPS for performance alignments? $79 is a good deal, especially when CAPS is willing to do custom settings.
CRX Don
I see my question was answered in another thread under General Motorsports. SpeedFactor (a club sponsor) was suggested, at $200 per alignment. Winnipeg Honda also.
