2017 PAX

The 2017 PAX figures were released a few weeks ago:

Note in general all classes (with the exception of the baseline A-Mod 1 factor) have been scaled down.

Here's a comparison spreadsheet I found from an Texan autocrosser (Vivek) to compare with expiring 2016 PAX figures. (box J1 can be selected pick 1 class and show the variance between the other classes)

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yOMHXNoj2TpsXFv_XuQ4AMsS0tbiAOmfmz3oglTG7gY/edit#gid=0

P.S. @justkickinA-Street PAX just got a ton softer, you have 6 month to come up with some better excuses for the vette being slow. :P

I am pretty sure I would have lost to @coach if the PAX factors for 2016 were what 2017 will be. Looks like I need to step up my game...again. Maybe I need to get that Stage 1 tune before the season starts. 8-)

Ugh, almost every other class compared to mine gets a bigger drop. At least it's not as bad as last year getting bumped from ESP to ASP.

Vivek is a great guy and driver.

@Magner, I always have excuses. They get better with age, just like a good wine. :D

Hmmm, CS or DS next year?

It's not like every class got slower, AM just got faster. Funny how that can happen with a class for purpose built cars.

On a 60 sec run DS gets a 0.54 advantage over the TRD spec FRS in CS... is the TRD stuff worth ~1/4 of a cone penalty each run?

All street classes got softer compared to mod. If you look the changes were pretty even across the board with a few .001 or .002 differences in the avg .013 change.

Who's buying the next MR2? :)

Looks like F-Street got hit with a PAX penalty, just in time lol, ready for the challenge?

Holy Shmoly!

Oh come on, your car isn't that far off in terms of holy shmoly level!

On our lot, I doubt it. See a few years of local BS S2k vs STR S2k results for evidence.

No.

I have 175 hp in a 2900-3000 lb car, and I need to keep up with a prepped E92 M3 of the Friesen variety. Fat chance.

Ill be out to keep rust off and I'll dream about beating someone in pax.

Realistically STX is looking appealing but I'm undecided.

or SSR perhaps?

Very tempting. A few co-drives for sure.

Completely agree, and you are only loosing out on the springs and 1 sway bar of your choice, hardly worth it. For comparison STX is only a ~0.75 penalty on CS and it open up much much more.

Yup. Full ST prep would be awesome but not going to happen for 2017.

Wait, Joe, no cookie monster next year?

Priorities. I haven't touched it.

I want to but time is all taken up with Abby.  It's a long term project.

I bought a E46 323i that I will autocross casually next season. I may be a lot monkey as well depending how I enjoy the car.

Interesting changes. JDM cars finally may be getting some recognition. JDM cars identical to north american counterparts may get equal stock classing....

The Focus RS to B street

Later Boxsters and Caymans to BS. Early Boxster (97-04) to CS.

E36 M3 to DS

My E46 non m goes to DS

What have we done in the past with regards to calculating the PAX value for cars running on street tire other than the classes that already have street tires mandatory? I know that we multiply by 0.985 but how do we handle the rounding, do we just round up (so 0.840205 becomes 0.841), do we do standard rounding (i.e. 0.840205 becomes 0.840 and 0.840502 becomes 0.841) or do we use the actual calculated number and only round the final time?

We calculate and round the local class pax factors to 3 digits. That is what we publish in the supp regs. That is also how they are input into the computer - with 3 digits. E.g. BSP is 0.853, as dictated by SCCA. We create BSPS by the following method:

0.853*0.985 = 0.840205, which we round to 0.840. The official pax factor for BSPS is 0.840, both in the supp regs and in the timing software.

In terms of final pax times, the computer does the math. My assumption is that it rounds to the nearest thousandth, although I suppose it's possible that it truncates instead. Either way, it doesn't really matter because it should do the same for all competitors.

Picking up a 2015 FiST on the weekend. This'll be the first time I have a PAX friendly car!

In for a codrive! ;)

I've heard lots of really good things about these cars. A lot of fun on track, but also just a good compact little car to boot around in and get to work with. Great choice, congrats!

I've tried to find a review that was negative, I've been unsuccessful with that.

I can't be the only one that thinks that sounds like a porn car! lol. FiST and friendly in the same sentence...the shame...needs decals for more bhp's.

Still pissed about the over crowding in HS, basically rendering my Mazda 3 absolutely useless now. The fiesta ST is just the tip of the iceberg here. No way my 150 hp "wagon" can keep up with a tiny hatch with 197hp, not to mention the RSX type S, 500 Abarth, Civic Si, Celica GTS, and Golf GTi.

So yeah, I now have a "non-pax wagon" which is another reason why I didn't run it the past two years and why I will be pretty casual with it this year.

In the end, a 150hp car can beat 500hp cars.  It just comes down to the nut behind the wheel.
