  1. Promoting autocross

We tried a lot of things to get people to make the drive to Fort Macleod, including special events, and even free entry for first timers. There was (and is) only one thing that seemed to work for us -- a novice school at no extra charge (no timing and no marshalling by anyone). There were a large number of people that came for the school and were never seen again, but there have been a few that have become regular attendees.
  2. Event #8

Pretty car It's nice to see my car still being driven for autox. I love our new car, but I will always miss the S2000
  3. Summer 2017 - Calgary Trip

Sunday was an amazing contest. To see how close it was, here are the scores at the end of the morning runs: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByeFbiNdvLbGMjAzQjZoRjV0dUU With the exception of Ryan, the rest of us in the top 15 or so were only hundredths of a second apart from each other. It truly was anyone's game on Sunday afternoon. Then Cam W and Tom K put down some serious runs, leaving the rest of us to fight it out for the remaining spots. Here are the afternoon-only times: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByeFbiNdvLbGNW1Ub1dZNTViS0E Curtis and Tim out drove me in the afternoon, but not quite enough to make up for their morning deficit. Fun, serious fun!

My runs (cheap cam BTW): Sunday AM (unedited): https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByeFbiNdvLbGUXdEQ0l2M2dtR00Sunday PM (unedited): https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByeFbiNdvLbGdW16eGIyTmNiMFUChrome apparently likes to play them in low res. If you want full 1280x720 resolution, right click, save to disk, and play with VLC or some other useful video player.

We will try hard to get you that 18+ runs for the weekend
  9. Summer 2017 - Calgary Trip

We do have live scoring, but it isn't to the internet, just a local wifi connection point.
  10. Summer 2017 - Calgary Trip

    Sure -- why not?
  11. Summer 2017 - Calgary Trip

Most clubs have stopped issuing membership cards We accept a cell phone pic of your membership email. Or I can vouch for you guys myself if you wish.
  12. Summer 2017 - Calgary Trip

No requirement for class letters, and masking tape is allowed. So if 14 is reserved, you can always go with 114 and 411 (masking tape for the extra 1), with only the 4 being moved for driver swaps. You can change your numbers in MSR yourself -- no need for me to go in an do it for you.
  13. Summer 2017 - Calgary Trip

Those numbers are the ones I threw in there. You can go in (update/change registration) and pick a pair of numbers that work better for you and are easier to change between runs. We insist on unique numbers for each driver, but there is no other requirement.
  14. Summer 2017 - Calgary Trip

Registration is open: http://msreg.com/2017YYCWCMA Those of you that registered early should go into MSR and edit your registration to select a car number of your choice. I added car numbers to everyone, with a few random choices where there was a conflict with reserved club members.
  15. Summer 2017 - Calgary Trip

The entrance to the lot is 22 St NE, Calgary. Google maps shows it as a dead end cul-de-sac, but there is a gate there into the lot.
  16. Summer 2017 - Calgary Trip

Jo and I can put up some racers for a few days at our place -- one full spare bedroom+bathroom, and one library that can hold a sleeping bag or two. And an entire basement Don't let your trip be held up due to expensive hotels..
  17. 2017 Season-Changes

Here is an interesting video where a guy compares (mathematically) an increase of 10% in lateral grip vs a doubling of horsepower:
  18. Summer 2017 - Calgary Trip

I retired last year, so I forget about people needing to work for a living We could hold a weekday event (Wednesday?), but the lot rental is expensive, and we need about 50 drivers to break even. Not impossible to do, but fees might be a bit hefty As for keeping the lot for years, I doubt it will happen. It is in a prime hotel/parking area right next to the airport, and it is currently for sale.
  19. Summer 2017 - Calgary Trip

Canadian Nationals are on June 24/25: http://www.vcmc.ca/forum/showthread.php?15922-2017-ASN-FIA-Canadian-National-Autoslalom-Championship-on-June-24-25-2017&p=102208#post102208 The lot really is wonderful, but because it is inside the city, the event attendance is huge (100+ drivers). We had to work hard to ensure a good experience for everyone, especially with the huge number of first timers that show up for events at this venue. I'll ask our club executive to see if they can schedule an event on the weekend before the nationals. It would make for a great practise event, and a good stop for people driving out to Pitt Meadows for the nationals. Another course at the venue (Stephen Hui driving my S2000):
  20. New Helmet Rules - please read

Which AGM is this -- something specific to you club's ice racing regs? The ASN rules were updated on June 16, 2015 and state that 2005 helmets are good until 31.12.2018. Those rules haven't been changed (I checked with our ASN rep).
  21. Quad copter footage?

This has come up at a few of our events. Turns out to be difficult (and expensive) to arrange. ASN rules on drones: www.asncanada.com/ASN-Canada-FIA-UAV-June13-2015.pdf ASN requires a commercial operator and specific insurance coverage. The commercial operator requirement puts the entire thing into the commercial rules for UAVs -- no fun.
  22. Not sure that you need a bigger/better venue. When Jo and I attended your regional last year, it was just fine in my opinion. Rough and rutted, yes. But still, workable, especially with your higher amount of overlap -- almost 50%. At Fort Macleod, we do get that one sweeper, but our days were very long because our overlap was pretty close to zero. I'll take a bit of rough in exchange for more runs. I will warn you that the effort to put on the event is far more than you might guess. But, if you hold it, we will come! Advice -- do NOT try to elaborate and make it too fancy. More suggestions via email if you guys are thinking of doing this. As for the attendance, it does seem that the novice and/or non-competitive drivers all pull out. Wish we could get them to come -- the event is a hoot and should be a "must attend". The battles this last weekend were epic, both in the super groups and for the overall.
  23. That was our attempt to get higher attendance. Didn't work It appears that "big" events scare off too many people. Another example would be the B.C.Champs -- their club events have been drawing more people than their annual championship event. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
  24. And a huge thanks to all who made the trip -- we were very happy to have you there, and very happy to have the competition.
  25. Corey and Curtis did some awesome driving this weekend: http://members.shaw.ca/murray.autocross/2015/2015_Toyo_Canadian_National_Final_Scores.txt
