  1. I apologize for being so late with this notice. The track will be open for late registrations at 10am. Newcomers will have to get themselves into Al's orientation at 11. Better get registered before that. Track goes hot at noon. We'll have a short lunch break around 3:30 to feed our staff. There's no food concession at the track but you'll have time to run into Gimli and grab something. Higher horsepower cars will probably need gas too.

  2. On the flip side ... I just checked the regs and you can shave off -2.0 PIPs if you run on biosolids.

  3. Working on it as we speak. Still some wrinkles to iron out regarding reserved number being locked in. As far as the schedule for HPDE/Track Day events, they will coincide with the race weekend dates as shown on our Website Calendar:

  4. I've had 3 sets of Hankook Ventus RS-4 and have always removed them before winter and stored in a heated area. Check out the Hankook Motorsports website: https://hankookmotorsports.com/ Also, refer to page 5 on the attached Hankook tire guide. Takes the mystery out of tire track temperatures and storage temperatures. Brian Hankook 2021_Tire_Guide.pdf

  5. Freezing competition tires ruins them. So what makes a competition tire? I don’t have a definition. The line between Competition Tire and Street tire becomes more blurry as technology progresses, especially with the new 200TW class of tires. In the buyers guide for high performance tires, if you have a “summer only” tire, that might be an indicator to keep it from freezing. How long/duration frozen, and at what temperature causes this problem? No idea. Will -5C for 1 night wreck them? Still no idea…my experience has been “all winter” and only here in Winnipeg, so when it looks like it’s going to be below Zero, bring them in to heated storage. From my experience, I can tell you that the cracking shown in the pics is a relatively new problem (to me), as cracking doesn’t happen on all comp tires that have been frozen. My first set of hoosiers going back 30 years, were amazing tires, unknowingly, I left them on the car that winter. They were quite different afterwards, traction was terrible. They didn’t squeal anymore, they didn’t leave black rubber marks, they just polished the road and left rubber dust. Fast forward to 4 years ago. My Toyo RR’s also showed no indication they were frozen, (they were near the end of their lifecycle for me) I left them on the car all winter - when warming the car up for a couple laps the following spring, it was clear they were hockey pucks - but no cracking. Hoosier has a freezing warning on their website (attached), they mention cracking. it would make sense for new car dealerships to understand the risk and maybe some do. I know of a new GT mustang that was at the school a couple years ago - 3 or 400kms, brand new, the tires were cracked. I don’t order tires until it’s above freezing just to be safe…

  6. Yes, there will be Track Days, also named HPDE. They will show up very soon on the calendar - expect them to be on the Friday of every race weekend. We also have started last year to allow a limited number of HPDE drivers on Saturday and Sunday, interlaced between Time Attack and Road Racing. That arrangement was exceptionally well received, and we are planning on doing this again in 2024. We will keep everybody posted!

  8. Although I never received a reply from OTA, the problem of downloading the PIP schedule appears to be resolved. Like me, you may get a warning that the file is insecure, but if you choose to continue, a PDF version of your schedule will be downloaded. Please submit your PDF schedule to secretary@wscc.mb.ca As Roland mentioned earlier in this post, everyone must submit a new schedule for 2024. Thanks, Brian

  9. You can count on me, as usual. I registered as volunteer for the event on MSR. Only problem I am running into is getting our 2024 WSCC memberships renewed for 2024.

  10. For anyone following this topic, I have updated the article in my first post on electric vehicle crashes to add the newest technology. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is working to get caught up, and several encapsulator agents for fire extinguishers are showing promise, but the technology to control thermal runaway fires still has a long way to go. There is now an EV Safety Plug on the market for first responders that plugs into a vehicle's charging port and engages the vehicle's shutdown protocols. It generally fools the vehicle into thinking it is hooked up to a charging station. The EV Safety Plug is not cheap; about $1200. If we allow electric vehicles on our track, I am going to suggest we look at buying a safety plug or an Efire-X extinguisher. Plus, if it doesn't include one already, our extraction kit should include a cable cutter tool for cutting battery cables. (And, if you read the article, you will see why I suggest we cut the NEGATIVE cable, and not the positive one in an emergency.) I know WCMA is possibly working on how to allow battery electric vehicles on race tracks in Canada. Our WCMA reps can feel free to share this article with the WCMA.

  11. Yes the 224 was a very custom order to provide that 1mm extra clearance with out compromising overall performance. They do need to be mounted on a 7.98 wide rim though. 😉 They are 225/45r17, I will edit the post to prevent any further confusion 😋

  13. We still have a few spots left at our Race and Licensing School, but we need to cut off registration soon! If you are still sitting on the fence, and you are not sure whether you should take the school, this one is the one to take! The weather is almost guaranteed to be great, and a somewhat smaller group will give you more time with your instructors, and even more opportunity to learns and get familiar with your car. You are pretty sure that you will never race, and therefore you won't need a license? Most of us who are regularly on track said such a statement at one time. Reality is that this school is not all about a license, but about learning how to control your car at speeds well beyond of those attainable on the street. Once you have become confident in your skills, any unforeseen emergency at road speeds is handled with aplomb; therefore, the skills obtained at the track directly transfer into your everyday driving on the road. Furthermore, taking the school allows you to decide whether or not you should be applying for a race or a Time Attack License - it keeps your options open should you decide to compete eventually. Lastly, taking the school will give you green wristband status immediately when coming for a hotlapping day. Register, show up and immediately hit the track instead of having to go through the mini-school and being restricted for a while. Click on: 2024 WSCC/SFR Competition License School (motorsportreg.com) and sign up for April 27th and 28th!

  14. We recently traveled to another city to check out a new barrier system and while there, checked out some full motion Sims. We were wildly impressed and after a few months of research, we just bought 4 rigs. Our rigs have 3 Samsung 32" curved gaming monitors, Heusinkveld pedals, Heusinkveld handbrake, VNM shifter, Simucube wheel (F1 wheel and round wheel) and D-Box Haptic system (actuators) and Sparco seat. I'll post pictures when they are all set up but here's a pic of the one we test drove on our visit. Our rigs will have a GT seating position. 2 of them are full motion and 2 are stationary because we think some people will not want to pay for the full motion. If we're wrong, we can add the actuators to the two stationary rigs. The rigs can be linked to each other or run independantly. iRacing and Assetto Corsa will both be available. They should be up and running mid-April

  15. No, there is no rule saying that you can't bring extra fuel to the track. Obviously the fuel needs to be stored in an approved container. Just as a quick reminder to everyone who does so: As the day gets hotter and the sun shines on the jerry cans, they will pressurize dramatically. Please relief that pressure on a regular basis - every race weekend I see plastic containers which have taken on the shape of a soccer ball due to the excessive pressure inside.

  16. Hey all - Not quite a technical question, but it is for the track car... are there any WSCC-affiliated body shops or recommendations these days? I have both MPI-claim, and non-MPI work that I need/want to get done in the next little bit. Thanks

  17. We now can confirm that we have the Friday (April 26th) as a HPDE day. I will coordinate with Ron to get a discount code in place that allows all volunteers for the Licensing School to participate for free.

  22. I have a 2004 Triple axle Charmac enclosed race car trailer I’m looking to possible sell or preferably trade for a 20-24ft enclosed. I’m the second owner of the trailer, it’s got propane heater, front cabinets and workshop area. Fully wired for 12v and 120v, and air. Has two deep cycle 6v batteries for power (both need replacing). This trailer is also fully insulated. All 6 tires were new in Spring of 2022 with only 2300kms on them. Axles and brakes all serviced at the same time. Awning was also replaced in spring of 2022 as well as a full roof reseal with new vents. Trailer has D rings and E track for tie down of cars/ATV’s motorcycles and Snowmobiles. Aluminum upper tire rack almost the full length for spares. Side access door to aid in entry exit of car. I'm not really looking to sell it just looking to downsize. My grand plans of traveling to events around the country have gone. If you have a 20-24ft enclosed trailer and are wishing you had just a bit more room send me a PM. Wont let me upload any photos sorry.

  26. Can I suggest that if you're going to re-schedule a meeting after the meeting schedule has been published, that you have a email blast sent out to all members advising them of the change? Most members don't do a search of the forums to check whether regularly scheduled meetings have been changed.

  33. I worked fairly hard on this in the winter of 2019 for the 2020 season. I basically write up a proposal that went out to a few companies. I had some talks with them and were finalizing a few right when Covid hit and all communication stopped. The largest hurdle is justifying the ROI to the sponsor, in 2019/2020 it was not going to that big deal as I had 3 events planed in the US with GTA. But for local small or zero exposure events it’s very hard. I have not tried to get anymore since. In this market you’re probably best to focus on small local business. None of the larger companies will see any benefits.
