View Full Version : Need SS'ers Feedback re. Braking System

First, let me give a quick bit of background:
'90-91 Integras included the RS, LS, and GS. The only ones concerned here are the LS and GS.
The ONLY differences between the LS and GS are:
1) GS had ABS. LS did not. The rotors and calipers are identical.
2) GS had adjustable side support on the driver's seat.
3) GS had 3 holy shit bars instead of just 1.
'90-93 Integra RS, LS, and GS are all classed as GS->DSS->DSP->CMOD

My ABS hasn't worked in the 6 years I've owned the car. That's okay since it was very primitive anyways. I pulled the fuse a few years ago.
The problem is there are other problems with my brakes that are very difficult to track down because of the added complexity the ABS system carries. The parts are also more expensive (Master Cylinder in particular). I simply can't afford to refurbish the ABS system.

I DO, however, have most of the parts necessary to replace the ABS system with the non-ABS system from an LS.

The question is, are people okay with me staying in SS if I do this? Technically it's not allowed, but it seems silly since basically I would be driving an LS instead of a GS which is in the same class anyway.

If it came down to it, I would be happy to accept a prep point for this, which I would offset by adding a fire extinguisher.

Yay or nay?

I knew it! Cheater!!

For this blatant cheating, I think you should remove all braking from your car for the rest of the year :)

Na, just kidding. It's fine with me.

Woh...you can't do that....cheater...no wonder you are beating me!!!

Seriously, makes no difference to me. I didn't think pulling the ABS fuse was allowed in SS anyway (there's a post around here somewhere). I would just consider this to be part of the update/backdate stuff and call it a day, after all, it is staying within the model line - sort of.

The problem is, the update/backdate rule is only allowed in SP.

What if I swap my VIN with an LS? ;)

Don't worry about it Wray!! Isn't your wife starting to get mad with you spending so much time on the forums?

I'm in SS and I wouldn't protest you. UD/BD should be allowed in SS anyway since the class your car ends up in is based on the assumption (by the SCCA) that you will be able to do UD/BD. But thats a whole nother topic.

i'm entierly with Jeremy on this one with the UD/BD and that's why if i was in SS i would say go for it. CAC has decieded to use the scca classes but forgotten to allow some of the things that they have allowed for.

Go for it for now.

Can you do an option package swap? That's legal to do even in Stock.

Well, ABS wasn't an option, at least on the GS. There's rumour of some LS models with it, but that's extremely rare.
But I'm not 100% clear on the rule -- would I be able to swap my seat for an LS seat, and remove my rear holy shit handles, and that would still count as an option package swap since that's the only difference from LS to GS?

You can also add things like handles without issue. So if the only difference is ABS, seats, and rear handles, you could change the ABS and seats and leave the handles. It would be the same as an LS with handles. Or you could take a point for the seat swap (LS with GS seats).

That's assuming handles = no performance difference.

This is all to be strictly legal at a National level. Locally, I don't care about ABS or minor trim differences.

Yeah, I don't intend to compete nationally with this car, but I don't want to bend the rules so much that anyone feels it's unfair.
For now, I'll just take out the ABS and replace it with the brake system from an LS. When that's done, I'll re-evaluate my prep points and see whether I'll go with an LS seat, or an aftermarket seat and take the point for it.

Just a little update.. pulled the ABS this weekend.. What a weird system. ABS Reservoir/distributor/solenoid unit, accumulator unit, and motor/pump assembly.
I left the computer and wiring harness in for now, mostly because I was exhausted by that point.
There's still a little air in the system, but I think it should be pretty good when it's bled again.
