We need to find this guy for our events:
Video Part 1 (http://fastaudi.net/racing/videos/CIMG2129.AVI)
Video Part 2 (http://fastaudi.net/racing/videos/CIMG2130.AVI)
And I gotta say, that's one TIGHT course lol

Shoot, I forgot to watch those last night. (I don't want to mess around with video at work...)
Whatever happened to us having a commentator on P/A?

I really want to make it happen. Two problems:
-haven't found someone to do it
-need to buy some equipment to do it right
The second one won't happen until we find the first one. I'd be willing to do it for the odd run group in a pinch.
Hrmm I dunno. I don't want to hear some joker talking about how I just hit some cone while I'm driving. I drive with the windows all down so I can hear the tires so I would be able to hear it.
Maybe it would be blocked out during a run, but maybe you would catch it... or maybe you would hit a cone, and then subconciously listen for some comment because you know it would be coming... then your concentration is wrecked.
I'm all for funny commentary on video AFTER the event, or off to the side (like in the above video).
Also, doesn't this go against your ideology of "nothing is added if it creates another job" ;D

First, thanks for setting up my avatar, Chris!
Dave, you make an important point. However, I recall they had an announcer at Super Slalom, and I never once noticed it while racing. I can't remember if they only made announcements between run groups, though. Even doing just that would be great.
"After the first run set for the odds, Rob Polsom in the Honda S2000 leads the pack with a time of 74.4 -- 'Robert Polsom? His name is Robert Polsom? ...I understand... in a Honda Civic, he had no name. But now, in an S2000, he *has* a name. And that name is Robert Polsom." *;D
"Now everyone in the odds get out to your assigned marshal stations so the evens can get some runs in!" *:)
That could be useful.

Oh, and who said commentary has to be funny? All it really has to be is informative. Then we wouldn't have us marshals using the radiowaves to ask how fast Mr. USA went on his most recent run.
It could be as simple as saying at the end of each run, "Corey Dyck in the red Miata comes in with a second run of 94 seconds, no cones. Out on course is Dave Wakeman in the black Protege, paranoid about what people might say about him." ;D
I remember hearing about you dragging cones around the course ;D
I also remember hearing I got a DNF because I reversed to get through a gate, which is a no-no in Sask. [smiley=16.gif]

Damn, I'd forgotton about that. ;D
But would you have a problem with the more minimal commentary I suggested? Granted even a short announcement after each run would still air while the other car is on course, because of our overlap, but if it's nothing overly distracting...
I'm all for funny commentary on video AFTER the event, or off to the side (like in the above video).
But Dave, we already do this off to the side when you're driving. hehehe
I have no problem with saying who's on course, and what time they ran. But like I said already, this is adding another job.

You're right, this does go against that ideology. But I think it's worth it. It lets people know how their competitors are doing, and spectators have some idea of what's going on.
It seems to unify the event a bit more.
But Dave, we already do this off to the side when you're driving. *hehehe
You do this to my face as well, not much change ;D

Don't expect any funny stuff from me! Maybe someone else could try, but I certainly wouldn't.
We've all heard someone desperately trying to be funny on a mic, I don't want to be that guy. ;)

Well, I'd certainly be willing to take on the job (of unfunny announcer), but we'd need at least one other willing person, since we have two run groups and sometimes it's necesarry to get out to a marshal station to study a specific section of the course.
Would doing this mean never marshaling?

We can work it out to your liking. ;D

Ok then: I'll only require one extra competition run per every two events, my choice of event to employ. ;D

I remember when that was taken. Turned out better than expected, huh? hehehe Very nice Chris. That's the kind of pic that will show up on a big screen at your wedding.
You're all so jealous that I'm a cool guy.

We're gonna need someone from the odds to step up as well.

I believe they prefer to be called 'even-challenged'.
I can run out of order, provided we find an even #'d person to run timing.

"even-challenged," I like that. ;D

Bump for two reasons:
-These videos are still freakin' hilarious
-Tom, still up for some commentating?

if I commentated, it would be nothing but smack and talk downs... all in good fun of course.. :P
I love it!
"The AWD clinging to anything it can!" lol :)
Its pretty funny seeing it on one run, but if we had a commentator, maintaining that enthusiasm, for alot fo runs, could be very challenging.
